Jason Lytle “Yours Truly, the Commuter” / 2009

“Yours Truly, the Commuter” is Lytle’s first solo album since shedding the Grandaddy guise after 2006’s excellent “Just Like the Fambly Cat,” and continues in the same addictive vein of whispery falsetto vocals and acoustic/electronic soundscapes on such poignant ballad/rockers as “Ghost of My Old Dog” and low-fi symphonies such as the life-affirming “Birds Encouraged Him” and the haunting and cinematic “Furget It.”

Two years after Grandaddy’s quiet demise, Jason Lytle returns with Yours Truly, the Commuter. Immaculately crafted pop soundscapes mirror both the dramatic environment of Lytle’s newly-adopted Montana and the vintage twang of Central California farmland that provided the backdrop to all Lytle’s earlier work. Electronic flourishes collide with acoustic guitars and soulful piano parts, recreating Lytle’s signature lo-fi-electro atmospheres.
